Claudio Di Veroli - harpsichordist

Live recorded samples

This selection shows diverse technical and stylistical aspects of performance.
The samples are about 20 sec. each, recorded live in recitals in the 80's and 90's
and recently transferred to digital media.

Playing a "pièce croisée" in 1995

The recordings were all made on the Hubbard-Di Veroli harpsichord, finished in 1975. The instrument was once considered the best one in South America and is today in optimal conditions in Bray, Ireland. It is a Taskin replica with a chromatic compass from FF to g'" and the classical two-manual disposition: 8' and 4' on the lower manual, 8' on the upper manual, with manual coupler and a buff/harp stop operating on either 8’.

Stop knobs When these recording were made the harpsichord was tuned to A=441 Hz because it was more often than not used with modern instruments. Such a pitch caused some broken strings.
The instrument was recently set to A=415 Hz: it is now both more stable and even better sounding.

The files are in Windows Media file format (.WMA, much smaller than MP3). To hear them you need to have installed either Windows Media Player 7+, an MP3 player or a freeware utility like IrfanView with Windows Media Player plug-in.
You have two choices: use the one that works best in your PC:
1. LEFT-CLICK: in some PCs it downloads and plays.
In others a box offers the option to save the file to disk.
Sometimes a window opens with gibberish and nothing happens...
2. RIGHT-CLICK: a menu opens. Select "Save Target as ..." or "Save Link As ..." to save the file to disk. Then in Explorer
double-click on the file. This should always work.
